How do I order copywriting?

Please visit our copywriting page to learn more about this solution (including pricing), or to place an order.

What is copywriting?

Copywriting relates to content primarily used for advertising or marketing purposes. As such, it usually focuses around particular offerings.

As you’re well aware, the internet suffers no shortage of ads, web pages, and other marketing collateral. To separate yourself from your competitors, you need copy that’s concise, compelling, and credible.

Note: Copywriting is not copyrighting — defined as the legal right to print, publish, perform, film, or record written material. (Our rates would not accommodate lawyers!)

What types of copywriting does Prose provide?

As versatile wordsmiths, we offer comprehensive copywriting services. In addition to website copywriting (which we offer as a separate content-type option on our website), you may order three different kinds of copywriting:

  • Email copy (for marketing emails or drip campaigns): Whether you want to communicate with existing customers or target new ones, we are experts at crafting enticing, effective emails that convey your message without sounding “spammy.” (A drip campaign is a series of marketing emails sent over a period of time, typically in conjunction with a marketing automation platform such as HubSpot, Marketo, or Pardot.)

  • Product descriptions: Consumers tend to rate descriptions as extremely helpful, no matter how self-explanatory a particular product may seem. The more complex the product, the more necessary the description. Detailed descriptions save your company time and money, but they also spare consumers unnecessary headaches by explaining product features and functions.

  • Marketing collateral (sales letters, brochures, etc.): Effective marketing collateral demands expertly positioned, quality copy. Customers shy away from sales letters, brochures, or ads that push, pander, or downright annoy. Don’t waste marketing dollars on anything less than a copywriter who has mastered the art of crafting collateral that's decisive and strong, but tactful and salient. Prose knows exactly how to hit that sweet spot.

Copywriting requires a unique skill set. What kinds of copywriters do you have?

Prose copywriters are vetted for their specific expertise crafting clean, clear, and compelling marketing copy — and they have the clips to prove it. Many of our copywriters have worked (or currently work) at boutique or large-scale ad agencies — or in the ad departments of major brands. Based in New York City, Prose proudly includes a number of Madison Avenue pros within our network.

My company/products/industry are unique and complex. How do you know them well enough to write about them?

When it comes to any custom content writing, a successful briefing process is highly important. In the case of copywriting, it is essential.

We begin by studying your website and reviewing any materials or links you share with us. But we go even further. When you order copywriting from Prose, you complete a content brief specific to your marketing and advertising copy goals. In the “Project Details” section, you'll answer questions about your desired call to action, your special offer or appeal to customers, and the data or facts supporting your claims.

Since most copywriting focuses around particular offerings, the content brief includes fields where you can describe every facet of your product or service, from basic details to the specific features and benefits your future customers will enjoy. You can also include links or upload files to give us more direction, help us to design the perfect message for your marketing collateral. To describe a new product or service, simply use the plus (+) sign to add a new entry.

Prose also encourages you to describe your company in the "Brand Guidelines" section, which only needs to be filled out once. Brand intimacy is useful when creating all types of content, but especially for copywriting. Questions include your unique selling points and target audience.

Copywriting is part of our bigger brand picture. How strategic is the Prose approach to writing?

Our copywriters excel in the art of copywriting and the methodology behind it. The language our writers craft is informed by overarching considerations that include word choice, audience positioning, and call-to-action placement. Their masterful approach is informed by years of experience developing strategic campaigns, often for agencies or renowned brands. That said, our writers’ main goal will always be to execute the specific campaign objectives you’ve identified in the content brief, from appealing to a specific target audience to communicating your unique selling points. For anything not clearly specified in the brief, our writers will apply their best judgment — which tends to please and even amaze Prose clients time and time again.

If your project requires a high degree of campaign strategy, planning, and white-glove consultation, please contact us to discuss the ways we might assist.

Why does Prose charge more for copywriting than some other types of content?

Copywriting tends to be more time-intensive than other writing types. As Mark Twain famously said, “If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.” Being concise is key, and every word is carefully selected not only to pack a punch but to make the whole more than the sum of its parts. Other content types, such as blog posts, are more free-flowing. Copywriting is a more exacting and specialized craft.

In many cases, copywriting requires more research. Field knowledge is not enough; the writer must have a detailed understanding of the company and its offerings.

The copy we need corresponds to specific images, illustrations, or layouts. How can we coordinate the blending of words and images?

The content brief includes a section that allows you to link to (or upload) any visuals you want us to consider.

Important note: The copy we deliver will be composed in a text editor and delivered as text. We are unable to provide copy directly in formats such as Photoshop, InDesign, or PowerPoint.

When relevant, our writer can do his/her best to call out visual directions (e.g., “Header” or “[Insert image]”). Ultimately, it will be the responsibility of your graphic designer or branding agency to integrate the copy into your layout.

In addition to writing our marketing emails, can Prose also design and format HTML email templates, and/or help us to send these emails?

Unfortunately, email coding or distribution is not a service we offer at this time. Writing is our focus and area of expertise.

Can Prose help write slogans, product names, or copy for traditional ads?

In most cases, yes. Because these projects are so variable and typically involve a significant degree of strategy, pricing is customized. Please fill out a custom quote request.
